PMPML bus
Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mandal has taken an initiative to make their local buses smart! This is a part of the Pune Smart City project that has been going on for two years now.
Masstrans stepped forward to help PMPML buses with their solutions. This has resulted in 400 buses getting sets of Intelligent Transportation System. This solution is expected to make travelling a smooth experience for travellers. ITS runs on a single control unit with emergency switches integrated into it. Surveillance cameras make the passengers feel safe, it also helps the operators to keep track of daily activities. Rearview camera and reverse parking system help drivers park in congested areas safely, without knocking out anything or anyone.
Bus Driver Console provides an internal view and the rear view of the bus, as a result, making it easier and safer for navigation. Speakers help with next and approaching stop announcements that lessen the chaos of passengers; the need for staff for stop guidance is eliminated. LED destination display scrolls names of stops as they approach and help people throughout their journey making it easy for fleet operators to make boarding and alighting orderly. It is coordinated with GPS and GPRS for getting perfect geo-location. These signboards are up to 5 boards per bus. Drivers are also provided with MIC to announce any important message.
The execution of the project has been initiated, expecting the best results. It is estimated that by the end of this year, all the buses will be equipped with ITS.
